a little correction, Edo was hidden away from the modern world so they don't know about things like guns, computers and the stuff we use and they probally don't even know eletricety and glass so they can't build the tall buildings so Edo keeps the houses as it is not knowing foreign countries they only know one language if u understand it and if u read it carefully the seme also explained it to the uke when he arrived in the modern tokyo after he was shot from a gunshot wound.
