I have only average Japanese skills, so I couldn't translate much. But if anyone else has better reading/translation skills and would like to glean something from the reviews, I'm sure that would be much appreciated.
Either way, when you see the covers of both volumes side by side, I feel like they suggest the overall story will have a happy ending. I could be wrong though. My guess is that volume one, the chapters we're currently reading, is from the teacher's point of view (duh, but also because the volume cover is of him), and volume two is from the doctor's point of view (since he's the cover of that volume). This would explain the foreboding, end-is-near tone, from the professor. He only has the first half (or first volume of the story), so from his point of view everything is going poorly. But then second volume would pick up with the doctor and he would supply the solutions and happy ending from his point of view.
I haven't found raws, but the second volume of this is available on Japan's Amazon, and the reviews there are probably pretty revealing, so spoiler alert: http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%91%E3%83%A9%E3%83%80%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B9%E3%83%BB%E3%83%93%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC-%E3%83%93%E3%83%BC%E3%83%9C%E3%83%BC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%83%87%E3%83%A9%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9-%E3%83%93%E3%83%BC%E3%83%9C%E3%83%BC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B3%E3%83%9F%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9DX-%E5%B0%8F%E5%B6%8B-%E3%83%A9%E3%83%A9%E5%AD%90/dp/4799724924/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I also could be completely wrong. Wah wah.
