Yea it’s strange cuz she also refers to herself as “a married woman” not a widow...but it’s kinda odd...I could have sworn she mentions somewhere in the beginning or maybe in the chapters where they were talking about painting...
It would only make sense as to why they are struggling that he is dead cuz they’re not acting as if they’re still waiting for the dude to come back ya know?
I think another factor is the baron's age? He's older than her daughters but I think everyone, Mildred included, believes he's quite younger than her so she doesn't really think it's possible.

Why is everyone INCLUDING Mildred not counting the possibility at all that the baron is into HER and not the daughters? He has stuck beside HER not them. Is it cuz she’s a widow and widows are pretty much considered undesireable back then?
