Well, if you're actually reading his bubble speeches and the way he acts, even from before (when he was a child) he became one with sahara. [More like his personality developed worse] then you can definitely tell that he has developing mental issues. (If we're talking about rational not ethical)

... and I still don’t understand what you expect him to do or act like? He’s running away from a place that caused him a lot of grief and hurt, and the multiple times he nearly died. I don’t know how that counts for acting like a bitch..
I think he’s acting very realistically to what he’s been put through.

That's actually whiy I like this story so much. The main character is not the perfect nice guys and has his dark side to him.
Which makes it all kinda realistic. And I would flee too, because I would be to scared to die.
