It might not seem like that big of a deal honestly, but it pissed me off because I can see he’s just trying to use her and has absolutely no respect for her whatsoever.
But the moment she actually meets a man (let’s call him the second male lead) who is nice, attractive and seriously interested in her, he starts trying to get in her way. Because THAT’S when he realizes that he’s got feelings for her. He at least has the good sense to realize that he doesn’t have any rights to her since he treated her like shxt when SHE confessed her feelings. But his cock-blocking game is seriously on point!
She actually asked him to help him save the second male lead once because he’d been imprisoned (I think it was unjustly; can’t remember, plus I was reading it in Spanish which isn’t my first, 2nd or third language), but the male lead didn’t want to because it wasn’t something he wanted to get involved in. When she said she’d find a way to help there second male lead on her own, that’s when he stepped in, but the deal was that she’d owe him something in return. That he would collect his debt whenever he saw fit. So the story progresses after that, the guy is out of jail, etc. She and the second male lead set up a date and you can tell it’s a decisive date (as a reader you know he’s going to propose to her). That’s when our male lead here, who knew they would meet, chooses to collect his debt. Basically just tells her not to go anywhere and to stay in the study with him until the end of the day. That way she stood the second male lead up.
I kind of stopped reading after that.
Listen, I knew she and the male lead would end up together anyway, so it’s not like I hate them as end game. But he’s not actually working for it; he’s just getting in her way. And now that I’m seeing the English translation, it just pissed me off to see the lack of respect he has for her even now.
This fkng bxtch... knowing where the raws are out now, actually makes me despise him right about now.
