It was in chapter 1 or 2 ig? It was mentioned that Sylvia was banished because she insulted Aileen at their engagement ceremony. It was never explicitly mentioned but even if the ML was the crown prince, Aileen and him couldn't have gotten engaged if the Duke didn't give his approval.

If Aileen requested to marry the crown prince even if he disapproves it initially, but because he loves his child so much, I guess he will eventually consent with it. That can justify duke father’s reaction.
