I agree that the girls in this story are rather irritating.They mean well but most of the time they are just forcing their feelings onto Shinichi, and just getting in the way of things or making it harder for him.
However, I suppose boys get more fired up and feel satisfaction saving girls more than anything else. And a girl saying 'I don't understand you,' 'Are you really Shinichi' may sound sweeter than some friend or parent saying it. I'm a woman so I just think she's kind of a pain, but she must be needed to entertain 'young men' the magazine targets.

just why, why is it that all the girls in this manga/anime soooooooooo stupid?????
that kana girl, saying things like, "i just need to pull their hair to know they're dangerous or not" helloo, the moment you realize someone is a monster by pulling their hair surely that someone would gobble you up right on the spot! just how much are you obsessed with getting near Shinichi, huh? this creepy stalker girl is really messed up in the head
and that that glasses girl, when she had had a strong suspicion of her crush being a human-eating monster how could she have faced him alone, even saying things like "if you are indeed what the rumours said, please go home and never come to school again", seriously!? what the hell? what is this, huuh? i guess this is the image the male mangaka had of girls, huh? or more like, his expectations on girls? always meek and understanding and willing to do anything for the one she loves without thinking? being all kind even though her crush might be a super dangerous killer? if i were shimada, i would kill her not because she knows my secret but because she's so stupid i couldn't stand it,,
