I don’t remember exactly why, but from what I read I believe it’s something along the lines of
How Penelope (?) became friends with Vinter so he had no reason to bring Yvonne to her coming of age ceremony, so Eclise did it instead because he wanted her all to himself as she had been getting closer to the male lead
Yeah that's exactly why (spolier kinda below)
she asks him when he is "arrested" and put in a jail cell on their grounds of why he did such an action. He basically said "I loved you so much that I couldn't bare to see you so close to the ML." With this, she discovers that she chose the wrong route to escape and leaves him without another word/glance to quickly fix a backup plan

he was also brainwashed by Yvonne to bring her in the household because he was scared that Penelope was gonna leave him behind when she marries the ML so Yvonne used that weakness to use hypnosis on him which sucks :/

DON'T WORRY, HE DOESN'T DIE
(HUGE SPOILER BELOW, DON'T RECOMMEND READING IF YOU JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF HE LIVES OR NOT BECAUSE I WENT INTO DETAILS)
well not automatically at least, it turned out that he survives his suicidal attempt but he lost his memories in the process. 5 years pass, and he happened to save her by slicing a snake monster (she was in a town helping citizens there I believe). She looks at who saved her and she's so shock she said his name and "you're alive?" sentence. Of course, him having no memories before the 5 years he woke up, he questions her if she knew him before and that if his real name was Eclise. He explains that he woke up in an alley and some people found him. When they were treating him, they saw his collar (I'm assuming a slave collar that was connected to her ring) and they were trying to rile him up. Well, they succeeded because he had no memory of killing them which led to him fleeing the capital because he didn't want to be caught as a criminal w/no memory. He says his name, currently, is Hamilton and 3 years prior, he happened to see her fighting demons. He then got the sensation that he should help her by her side so he's been following her for the past 3 years, slaying demons that got too close to her. Since Penelope's mouth/body (the whole 'saying his name in shock'), it only confirmed his suspicions that they knew each other well in the past. This makes Penelope (I wanna say angry/upset but it's not the right words to describe what she was feeling at the moment so...) conflicted but in the end, she tells him to not bother her and leave her side as she doesn't need his protection from the shadows. She also mentions that he shouldn't bother with the past relating to her anymore because she says that she "took advantage of him" (she kinda right in a sense) and that they were both toxic to each other (meaning that she was only a beneficiary to him as she says that she bought him at a slave auction; drawing the line in an aggressive tone). This leads to an argument (blah, blah, blah) and he confesses that he actually followed her for the past 3 years to kill her because everytime he laid his eyes on her, he gets an unpleasant feeling in his chest (we all know what it means but he lost his memories so..) but he couldn't because he would "lose his fun" (meaning that he lives to just live (a direct quote would be "his eyes were lifeless...") and to kill her would mean that his life has no purpose to go now). So she tells him to give up following her and to go to Northeast to settle down there. This leads to a bittersweet ending where they part ways.
And that's it, that's where Eclise is last mentioned. It was a really bittersweet moment because I felt bad for him.
WAIT HE DESERVES A BETTER ENDING :(
