I think it highly depends on the order you watch all of this. I watched the untamed first and then read the novel. All of this in a week. So, the details were so fresh that i was able to compared the two of them more precisely. And i think the fans are pissed at the fact that they did a whole arc of the past in one go. But if you think about it, that actually makes the story more fluid. The fact that they cut the forest scene where Lan Zhan kissed Wei Ying when they were 15 is obviously due to censorship and the fans are really pissed that they censored all those parts. But on the donghua i can't see their connection and chemistry AT ALL. All i see is a Wei Ying in a bad place. Even the untamed has more stares, flirting and dialogues that confirm the connection of soulmates the both of them have. The thing is that is subtle, delicate and not explicit like the novel. And that's what pisses off some fans. But the donghua? The donghua has none of that. I dropped it after season 2 seeing how unimportant Lan Zhan was to Wei Ying. The lack of deep, and at the same time, subtle details when it comes to the connection the both of them have, and how they surely changed a ton of dialogues, made it unbearable to keep watching. If anything the animation is good and the drawings are pretty. That's it.

Exactly. The donghua has parts that are absolutely unnecessary to include and completely made up. Things that never happened in the novel. At least the untamed took out some not so necessary details to the whole picture of the story but didn't add anything that wouldn't help to the story. They respected the whole essence of the story.

Not to be rude, but I was not talking about how different they portray their affection to each other. I was actually pointing out that the plot in the novel and live action are different. For example, the yin metal and how wei wuxian is not the grandmaster or founder of the demonic cultivation in the live action. I actually dropped the live action halfway through the drama because of that. Sorry if it sounds rude

Why would that sound rude? You're just explaining to me your point of view.
I understand. And like the yin iron was a reason for you to drop the live action, the addition of unnecessary scenes on the donghua, that didn't contribute at all in the comprehension of the plot, plus the lack of the essence that was needed to portray the connection between Lan Zhan and Wei Ying (and I'm not talking about explicit content) was a reason for me to drop the donghua. We just share different points of views in how we took in the entire mo dao zu shi world.
To anyone desperate to know what happens, read the novel. Honestly. The donghua is not nearly accurate with the story. If anything the manhua and the live action are the more similar ones to the novel. The live action is okay, yes, the only difference is that they rearranged the order of the flashbacks to make it more fluid for the screen and due to censorship we don't have the spice of the novel. But yes, as much as haters complain, the live action is a fairly good adaption of the novel. The donghua doesn't make it any justice at all. It's the most inaccurate of them all. And if you can't wait for updates on the manhua, read the novel. I promise it's a fast reading even though it's long, because you get immersed in the story so you don't even realized how fast you're reading.
