Bets that are between two people that are tied directly to the actions of a person caught in the middle are a big deal. Also, my irritation with the marchioness isn't just because of the bet. I love this story, when she's not on page antagonizing the emperor for literally no reason. I detest the idea that "oh, you're wonderful so he's not worthy of you" bs from friends. They don't get to make that call, and they don't get to push their idea of it onto others, and they certainly shouldn't get to antagonize someone because of it. She's well aware of the situation and is intentionally being a b*tch. The author is also queer baiting her with the empress to pull people in. It's irritating and I have the right to be mad over it. Thanks though for the idea that you can dictate other's emotional responses to written/drawn works.
