I don't know about this ML...

Is it really forgivable that he tried to kill the FL/MC who hasn't actually done anything wrong?

I personally have sometimes murderous thoughts/fantasies towards people I resent but I can't relate to the archetypical (dark haired) revenge driven feared killer ML who either manhandles, threatens or attempt to kill the FL who just wants to survive.
And the FL always heals and falls in love with the tsundere bad boy...

I know this fantasy romance escapism but I can't help to question this logic.

Take for example, Bridgerton where the FL Daphne is proposed by a really nice honest respectful mature prince Friedrich but instead she chose to marry the tortured brooding Fuckboy Duke Simon!
Just marry the goddamn obvious better option!!!

By the way, there are a 3rd + 4th ML who magically fall in love with FL Jubellian AND really wants her to be happy. But they give up because the 1st ML is the crown prince...

I think (didn't read it) that he came into the prison by her father's orders. He was going to rescue her, but she committed suicide before she could be rescued.

Oohhh this makes sense... but I wonder why her father gave her a sword in the first place?

To defend herself, or maybe it was magical and allowed her to escape, as it was said that no weapon or magic worked inside that cage..

I am more talking about when he entered secretly her room with the intent of getting rid of her for his own ambitions

The tsundere father gave her stupidly the sword for self-protection.
But because he wasn't capable of communicating with her honestly, she (her first incarnation) keeps misunderstanding.

He wanted to get rid of the reason why the father is under the Emperor's control.. Maybe we would think of doing the same...
