You know that the dad was doing all that to protect her, right?
Also the dad didn’t want people (the emperor) to know that she was his weakness

There are lots of details the manhwa omitted from the novel.

Remember the opal ring around the emperor’s middle finger? That’s the magical ring that holds MC’s well being. I don’t know why something so important was omitted. They should have had monologues there, not just some fancy ring “shining”

He needed to show he never cared for her despite him extremely thorn inside. Or the emperor will be more problematic.
That’s why max mentioned “leashed” and “weakness” the emperor held against the the duke.

Though, he made 1 mistake during her childhood, IDK why the hinting of it was also not shown here.

Same with Max’s past. He only had the Duke, and that strong duke was not the usual duke whenever he is with his daughter.
He was not a Yandere. Far from it. He just cannot understand the Duke’s obsession of her daughter’s well being, which as you can see, he is now realizing why and understanding too.

Lastly, the “shadow” room scene, the suicide room, there was more to it than that. That was not supposed to end like that.
