That’s how his personality is, he doesn’t mean to come off as cold. He doesn’t even realize Juv takes it the wrong way. And the dagger was for protection, he sent the prince to get her out but she misinterpreted the situation. He was devastated when she died. I can’t answer too many questions cause I stopped reading the novel at some point (gotta pick it back up again but lost my place)

idk how i got this info but i remember something abt how the dagger was meant for her to use as defense!! also i think the crown prince was supposed to be there to help or smth so it was just a big misunderstanding. also about being cold to her I think it's related to the fact that the emperor uses her as a weakness

I think he was so harsh with her because he was trying to keep the emperor's attention off her. I think the emperor probably poisoned the princess himself (or arranged it) to frame the Dukes "weakness" for the crime, and test his loyalty/punish him. He's been cold to her all this time in order to keep her safe, but it MASSIVELY backfired, because even SHE was convinced he had no love for her, and that she was actually going to be tortured by the crown prince... when I think her father gave her the sword so the crown prince would have a weapon to help rescue her... and she stabbed herself with it because they didn't let her in on the ruse. she thought she was going to be tortured and killed herself with it. this is so sad.

I think the concept is fascinating...I just don't understand why some modern-day woman needs to take her place? Like, just let the poor girl figure this stuff out herself and find out she was loved, and have an actual character arc and stuff? Like, damn, don't ruin a good thing chasing after fads... it kind of cheapens the story.

penny's theory is on point. i onlygot halfway through the novel but yeah basically dad didn't want emperor to know his weakness so he was cold to her, but he was cheering her on in the sidelines in the MOST SUBTLE ind of way. the knife was for self defense, the prince was to help her escape, and the original FL is a throwaway doll. the ex fiance is an obsessive guy who actually just wanted the title and not juvel herself.
