
They are like the korean version of geisha. Their work is to entertain men, through talking, dancing, playing instruments etc. They also fix them drinks and are very polite of course. They don't necessarily sleep with their clients. Some do, some don't. Also they don't actually have a high social status, but their work is quite respected nonetheless.

Males especially higher ups. They did music and singing but didn’t or at least not willingly did they have sex with the clients. Actually some of them were even “bought” as a second wife. I’m not Korean but this is my knowledge of them:)

They were entertainers. Though they were of low status, they were educated in the art and music and in good conversation skills so they could entertain men. They were also young, aging out of the profession around 22. Much like a Geisha, just Korean. And for clarification. Kisaengs and Geishas are not prostitutes. They are considered entertainers and were treated with respect.
Can someone help me? What is a kisaeng? I'm not so familiar with the korean culture...
