That's a courtesy to others - staying home when you're sick means you're less likely to infect everyone around you. Working (or going to school) when you're sick isn't impressing anyone in this culture, it's not a test of endurance, and they'd rather you stayed home than do crappy work hopped up on drugs and spread it around.

I still haven't heard anyone say definitively that people in Japan who go to sleep with wet hair or get caught in some rain get sick though - that one is just LOL.

I don't get fever from sleeping with wet hair, but I do get migraines, so I avoid doing it. As for rain, it does not happen all the time, but I did get sick from it once. But here is the thing, when I was in US, I never once gotten fever. It also hardly rains over there. But I always get fever every year in Asia, and it rains like crazy here. Maybe the difference in humidity made it easier for bacteria and virus to grow, and that is why it is easier to catch virus here.

this is why the US was so bad with covid lmao... were conditioned to endure it and go to school/work. ppl in other countries get paid sick days off and stay home bc 1. they sick 2. so they don't infect other people 3. you get paid so you dont risk losing youre effin job to a sick day. i hate america, fuck that bullshit on the "american dream" im moving to mars

You realize the comment was also made about COVID specifically, right? How Americans are lead to go into work/school even when they're sick? Regardless of any other country's condition - as this isn't a matter of better or worse in other aspects - it's true that Americans DO push through sickness to keep working (even if other countries also do). And REGARDING other countries this time - the US has the highest case count/death count by a large amount worldwide for COVID. Statistically speaking, we are doing HORRIBLE with it.

I'm not Japanese but asian and I always get scolded by my parents if I sleep with wet hair saying I'll be blind and get a cold lol
