Umm why should true love be tragic?? Kind of stupid honestly.

I think the wording might have just been bad. I think her point is that they just came together n don't rlly have trust/firm bond. To her that would be formed through hardship of some kind, proving/showing how they care. The main couple hasn't rlly done that so she's providing the hardship. Also I think she wants ML to prove himself worthy of her friend lol

Yeahh I think your explanation of her wanting him to prove himself worthy of her friend makes sense and sounds a lot better than her wanting him to suffer for love or something haha.
'True love should be tragic' makes it sound like love isn't valid or as special unless you overcome hardships.
