In other fantasy stories made by patriarchal authors middle aged male characters are portrayed as strong, competent and superior.
well, compare to other ppl in that group, middle age is considered old so that's probably why they called him old man
As shitty as that reason was, alan's mind is also in distraught at that time so that megane is just using that opportunity to kick out doughlas coz he's all about that strongest magician title & he's just a desperate loser...if megane thinks cursing doughlas is really a sincere way to help him then he would do that himself, not asking alan to do it.
