They're actually 15-16 and in middle school throughout the plot, which means that there shouldn't be any sort of "yaoi" context here. Kissing and talking about sexuality isn't yaoi.
I **can** see if they wanted to refer to the BEGINNING of the story where blondie and the other dude are grown, and NOT minors anymore. But even then, there aren't even many chapters from that to even consider it to be a yaoi.
The points were basically reasons why it turning into a yaoi isn't surprising. Not to mention, the things they do in here is quite brave for a shounen ai, they don't just talk or kiss, they'll sent dick pics, rub against eachother and clothes come off more than expected. Turns out some else said in the comments that this is actual a flashback of them in middle school. And I see your point but the minor excuse just doesn't make sense to me bc even if they are 17 they are still minors and most yaoi/shounen ai are minors
Honestly, the biggest reason this is very very unlikely to ever contain nsfw scenes is that the author is chinese/it's a manhua and China banned pornography a while ago. I feel like people just aren't aware of this? I do agree with you on saying it's "brave" or "adventurous" because of ALL the suggestive scenes here and there and PDA.

2.They are 17 - 18
3. In chp 165, it has been teased that Jian Yi thinks he's abnormal bc he isn't sure what his sexuality is
