there are no updates because the author hasn't written any new chapters since they are sick (I think they had cancer, correct me if I'm wrong)

It's not cancer. She had back problems and split wrist and needed surgery for them since it got really bad.
Wow, that's serious but that's also good that it's not as bad as cancer. Feel like I've seen too many manga author's get so sick and/or die
For example, I'm on the edge whenever i hear World Trigger is getting postponed again and again because the mangaka has a very serious life threatening disease for the last couple of years now.
