Not only that but they are even used as nicknames between lovers in some Asian countries. I’m chinese and for example, in an old wuxia drama (LOCH) where the FL called the MC “Jing-gege” aka “brother Jing” after they became lovers. Just like girls call their bfs “oppa” in Korea. Also immediately connecting that moniker to practices like maid cafes is just ?????? to an asian person, personally.
You are all free to feel uncomfortable with the set up, but claiming that “noona/noonim” is there to set up real incest when ML p much just being respectful to someone senior is just a stretch.
