Unfortunately things that are well written and make people use their brains are usually ignored. It boggles my mind when $hit stories are all the rage and better written ones are ignored or hated on.
I think it’s because of the art style. I don’t mean to be disrespectful towards author but the art style is not pretty (in my opinion) and it can be off-putting for a lot of people.

To each is own but KS art style is way better ! it’s more realistic and clean.
I personally love the art, it's gorgeous. Kirin, in particular, is so pretty. I was put off by the synopsis but came for the art. So glad I did, I love this so much.
But everyones different
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. For example, Attack on Titan’s art has been criticized over the years for not being very good/pretty or what not, but AoT is massively popular. I honestly think the reason this series is overlooked is because of its heavy themes.
But you can’t compare an action shonen to a yaoi. Most of the time fujoshis are here first for the art style / characters appeal then the story.
Whereas for a shonen readers are here for the story first.
Bruh hands down , this is one of the best , well made psycological yaoi mangas out there
