Actually I am enjoying the manga a lot better. The novel, amazingly, seems to drag along and gets a little boring to read. The anime is great, but seems to rush through a lot of stuff, and skip all the darkness. The manga has a good flow, and a good blend of the darkness of the novel.

the manga is better IMO. The anime lacks the character details that some of them have shown. Like the insanity--- I say insanity but its really her bloodlust-- of Rory. The anime severely downplayed the terror that can be felt by the soldiers in that inn as it was shown in the manga. The quality of despair they felt when they were fighting a losing battle with the dragon in the anime was a tad lower compared to the manga. The anime makes me feel as if Yuuji is a tad more pedophilic unlike in the manga where it highlighted his fatherly? brotherly? affections for both leilei and tyuuka. And the undertone of the anime when it showed the invasion of that one town in the beginning was far too bright for me. The manga showed the evil and good part of a magical world with different creatures living side by side. Whereas in the anime you can see where they highlight that the people in that magical world coexist happily without that much fuss even if they are different from one another.
