i feel as if it’s just a way of coping ,, i am suicidal myself and a lot of times ways i cope with that is by making fun of myself or dark humor. i get maybe you dont agree and feel as if it’s mockery but for some people it’s quite the opposite. and with the r slur ,, it’s true it’s normalized. so thats most likely why the author sees no problem it may not be their fault ...
But you basically just explained it why the author uses it so much? It’s normalized, so maybe the author doesn’t even know what’s wrong with the word, a lot of people don’t know actually
And I think is just as the other comment said, it’s a coping mechanism. A lot of people try to cope by making jokes
when my dog and cat died I used to joke a lot because it was a way of trying not to cry, some of my friends felt uncomfortable but it was about me dealing with my feelings, and it didn’t envolve anyone else. I’m really sorry if it makes you feel uncomfortable and don’t agree with it.
But we don’t even know what the author is going through so... maybe they’re trying to cope with themselves by writing this

I have stopped reading it actually, i didn't think the story itself would make me feel offended in anyway but the way the suicidal person is portrayed just didn't feel right to me. Also, just general use of ableist slurs is so normalised everywhere that people seem to forget that they are slurs. In all honesty, the translation team is also to blame for not using a different word like idiot or moron.
you cant rly expect everyone to write just the stories you want. not everything has to be a "good portrayal" and anyway, suicidal people arent a homogenous group? this is just a story about one character. also.. consider that this is a korean manhwa and has dif standards + comedy from american tv for ex. I dont like the r word use either but saying just "i dont care if its normalized in [asian countries the author isnt even from], its disgusting of them personally" comes off ignorant.

I haven’t read much of this manga so I guess I don’t really have a say. But one thing I’d like to comment on is the use of the R slur. This is a korean manga right? So all the English is translated from Korean, meaning that the words may not be exact. For example, I’ve seen the R slur and even N slur used in Japanese manga when I KNOW there is no exact equivalent to either of those words that can be considered a slur in Japanese (the N word was used in Pumpkin Night, to be fair the translator was called out for this bc it definitely was not used in the original). Instead of criticising the author for using a word that may not even be a slur in his language, we should question the translator’s choice to translate it to a word that is considered a slur. Who knows, I might be talking out of my ass and the word actually is offensive in Korean, but I honestly doubt it and I personally think it might just be a difference in the meaning of the translated words
The constant use of the R slur in this Manhwa is fucking ridiculous. I do not care how "normalised" it is in Korea or China or Japan. The fact that the author even thought it was okay to add it in as constant vocabulary is disgusting.
I get this is a comedy but as someone who self harms and deals with these thoughts i cannot accept how it seems that the way we feel is being portrayed in a mocked way. Making fun or making it seem like a game for the MC to kill himself. It's not funny, you can do a depressive story and still have comedy. Just don't make that comedy involve all of the thoughts of self harm, or how wimpy we seem when it comes to our choice of suicide, or even how easily he comments about wanting to die. I do feel heavily offended and made fun of.
