I'm suspecting that the clairvoyance ability he had and expected to be able to use to recognize her is an ability he traded to turn back time for her when he found her in her first life, since the ml look a lot like the guy who found her in the river
Seems like he recognized her straight away than the guy she promised to come back for. I'm pretty sure he'd listen to her story and not tell her she's faking it. He's a better male lead than the actual male lead it seems... Male lead better get it together
