Haven't you been reading until now? You dobñnt know what the definition of 'psychopath' is right? Well soo won was portrait as a srly smart kid, not a spycho and he didnt want the throne, he didn't even wanted vengence, the only think he wanted is that kouka thrived, but the OH SO GREAT king ll didn't think of himself as a king, just a PLACEHOLDER for her daughter, so until her daughter became queen he thought it was OK for citizens to eat shit and survive as best a they could (the king ll was selfish af), soo won couldn't stand to see the kingdom and citizens like that, he kill the bastard and became king, is as simple as that (=・ω・=)

Ive been reading this since 6 years ago and im a soowon stan thank you!...
But really what he did was logical. He acted how he should have. We got enough of what a bad king yonas father was. And how he was not letting yona learn anything useful there was no guarantee that she would be a good queen. Like we now how spoild she was at the beginning. Soowon a sociopath?? He was a genius. A 9 year old who is smart and mature enough to see his father corpse might not be a normal child but that doesn't make him a sociopath. He decided that he cant get revenge if the country needs king ill you call this being a sociopath? And maby you guys should read again the chapters ther was moments that we didn't oay attention to but was very important like when they were at that slave camps and soowon sensed hak at the other side of the wall. We saw how sad and heartbroken he was. And if he was an actual villan there were thousands of times he could kill yona and hak but he didn't. And there was even a chapter when hak saw him and wanted to kill him but he didnt even move an inch or try to escape. He calmly waited for hak to kill him if he wants. If judo and jiha were jot there he could have died by hands of hak. And there was another chapter where he said he really doesn't waits for a happy life and death. I dont get why people hate him whwn even hak is forgiving him little by little. He didn't know king ill killed soowons father and his other reasons. Im not saying we should wait for like the tree of them lived happily ending but i really don't want him to die! He couldn't fell actuall happiness at all doesn't even have a loved one and is suffering from that stupid useless ilness. You quys really are ok with him diying like that?

Darling you’re coming off way too aggressive. This isn’t the way to have a discussion, not even on the internet. So take a deep breath, this is just a manga, no need to scream your opinion at me.
I didn’t say he was a psychopath, I stated he exhibited sociopathic behavior that even his mother saw. There is no need to compare him to king Il to understand his personality, that’s just a dead end. Just because now he claims he wants the “kingdom to thrive” doesn’t mean that his planning out the over throw and murder of his childhood friends father came as anything but a plan of vengeance on his part on the man who killed his father. Hey, Yuna’s dad was murdered in front of her but she didn’t go looking for vengeance. Different people, different personalities, different reactions.
You have your opinions and your interpretation of the story and I have mine. It’s all good.

By these standards, having your father murdered by someone you trusted, is a free pass to get revenge on whoever did it, however you can, no matter how brutal. So Yuna has every right to continue this cycle of vengeance also? You seem to be holding Sowoon and Yuna to two totally different standards. I’m sorry but it’s not like this man is an expert on running the kingdom, yes he’s cunning but he still has several councilors who have been advising since he was a child. Yuna is also smart, yet she isn’t deceitful, not one bit. People don’t just dislike Sowoon for no reason, he’s untrust worthy, he’s shady, and he has no problem sending people to do his dirty work for him, why are we just totally disregarding that he sent people out to chase and kill Yuna and Hak on sight? Personally, I don’t think he deserves most of the sympathy he gets. I sympathize that he has an illness, but when he met the other person who shares his burden, he didn’t lift a finger when she was about to get killed by his servant, and her life was only spared because of Yuna. Please, since the beginning Yuna has been cleaning up and protecting the kingdom, he barely does anything.

Yes yona can get revenge as well but soowon action was not just taking revenge it was rebel. I never said yuna is not smart and i don't underestimate her at this point of the story she will be the best queen ever. But thats due to the self growths she had . Living in the sky castle without knowing whats going on in the country or what people are suffering from, not knowing anything about democracy and being too naive would make her not a good queen. She was like this before leaving the castle with hak and if you dont think so you can read first chapters and flash backs again. So soowon WAS the best option for fixing the country. He barely did anything? Once again i suggest you read the story from early chapters.just Who saved the earth tribe? And Yona and soowon get ride of nadai problem together. And he build up koukas strategic powers again and make other countries respect and fear kouka. Even at the last war with kai they won the war because of one of soowon strategies that hak remembered. And he was a genius as child you can remember that by rereading flashbacks chapters again. What counculer you talking about judo? Or that long haired poker face guy kei suk?you think he really made him like this ?
A king can not act with emotions. And the one who send people following yuna and hak was kei suk not soowon on the first chapters. And yess he tried to kill them on the night of kings ill death because they could ruin the whole rebell thing. The whole sky tribe was planning on to rebell for years you think it is wise to put thousands people life and whole country future at risk because of two of your friends? If you do you are a good person but you cant become a good king or leader. Thats the exact difference between soowon and king ill.
And should i remind you even hak wanted him to become the king and thought he was a suitable candidate when they were teenage?
You guys should see this not just as a shojou manga . But how it actually shows us a world with logic and details like ours with an actual deep story and character assignment.
So what if he can kill people when it needed? He is leading a country like even in now governments kill lots of people secretly for their own and country benefits while soowon barely actually done that.
Living with the same burden? They point of view about it was completely different he just hate the whole story of dragons and king hirio while she put pride on it. Their whole sickness was meaningless regarding how yona is not even one of their family. And the story of king hirio teared apart all his familly so you want him to be like oh you have the same problem? Lets be friends!
People are not devided as good:emotional vrs bad: logical. And i never sympathise him. i want him to have a better ending than diying alone because of the illness and i dont mean a good ending with him and yuna and hak together thats impossible. but at least author made things better for him like make hime marry somone and dont die alone. Sorry its this long i couldn't control myself

Amen sister, you took the words out of my mind, it's true the storytelling of the Manga has been great so I don't get why so many people have a hard time understanding the chara years and actions, it's true different people are gonna have a different opinion about the same subject but the mangakas is practically screaming in our face that there more to the story than white and black/good and evil but people are still trying to find the 'bad guy' of the story like if there really was one, soo wln can be the bad guy in yona's POV but I'm sure he would be the hero In the eyes of the one of citizens of kouka while king II would be the tyrant.

Sorry, I didn't meant to be agressive, but now that I read my comment again then I guess it sounds that way... But I was truly asking because I thought you didn't know the definition of psychopath, there are many people who believe they are just crazy people who like to kill but in reality they are people who lack emotional attachments for anyone and anything and Through the Manga we can see that soo won cares for a lot of people not only his parents, yona and hak but he is amazed by 'people' in general, like we saw in one of hak's memories, he also liked his kingdom and was willing to do anything to protect it, even if that meant to Sacrifice the friendship of the 2 most important people in his life, that's what it means to be a líder.
"someone who can't sacrifice anything can't change anything"

I have read the story just like you did, and have my own interpretations of the plot and characters, you don’t need to tell someone to reread something, just because our opinions aren’t the same.
Sure Sowoon is logical, but clearly unsympathetic to anything that does not follow his plan, personally I don’t think that’s a quality one wants in any person in a position of power. He could have easily become king by marrying Yuna, instead of planning and going through with a murder and over through plot. And Hak as a kid thinking Sowoon deserves to be king barely means anything, mostly because he basically only saw the version of Sowoon he wanted to show, also because it seemed like the fact Yuna and Sowoon would marry was a done deal. Also, Sowoon having his advisors do the dirty work for him - ordering Yuna and Hak chased out and killed - just makes him like the rest of the corrupt politicians throughout history, also not such an admirable quality. Just because countries still to this day have wars against each other and their own people doesn’t mean it’s the right path to go by, take it from someone who actually lives in a country plagued by war every couple of years. I probably didn’t address most of what you wrote, because my attention span is very limited, sorry.
Personally, his character is unappealing because he’s so untrustworthy, and I don’t really care what happens to him, he can die alone or live happily doesn’t matter. He betrayed his childhood friends in your opinion for the “greater good”, I just don’t see it, most of the previous plot revolved around Yuna and her friends literally going around the kingdom solving problems, that was necessary for Yuna’s development. What Sowoon needs for his development is to literally learn compassion and sympathy, and even with that Yuna is gonna be the one teaching him that, which speaks more to her character than his own.

Again I wrote “sociopath” not “psychopath”, there’s a big difference between the two.
And trust me if people were just looking for the bad guy in this story, it wouldn’t be Sowoon. Because there are a lot worse characters than him. People just see his story arc differently than you do. Sure he has deeper motivations that what is first shown, and the mangaka might even want him to be viewed otherwise, but you literally can’t control what people understand and interpret. Anything he’s done along the way, could have been done very differently, and in fact is done very differently when Yuna herself, just like Sowoon has her father killed by who she perceives as her childhood friend and even future husband. Sowoon and Yuna face the same situation, but have extremely different reactions to it. People dislike Sowoon not only because of his betrayal, but also because we see the contrast between him and Yuna as leaders, we can’t help but cheer Yuna on, because she is the better choice. Sowoon on the other hand is untrusthworthy, calculating and unsympathetic. Sorry, not sorry.
lol it's not like readers are Soo-Won stans lol it's just that we now understand better how he got here, doesn't mean anyone condones his actions ( ̄∇ ̄")
Also the author clearly wants us to understand him as well, she is building a whole ass kingdom's bloodstained and painful path and history afterall, things can't be black and white morality is always going to be grey. I think these are signs that the work is more mature than typical adventure shounen/shoujo manga where "bad guy born evil- the end". Haven't the translators been reading? ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
On a lighter note: thank you manga gods for giving us more Hak in these difficult time. Amen.
