Probably to make connections as "L" as to not be seen by the duke and his people
she needs to make connections so she can gain individual power not tied to the duke, so that when the duke's daughter returns her life will not be affected by their family anymore. plus it's less suspicious to move around as someone else, or she might be pulled from the academy
