No actually there was no love between crown prince and cecilia. They were friends and the cp knew cecilia would make a good empress that doesn't have ties with the 4th dukes. But cecilia didn't want to be empress, she wanted to be with the one she loves (aka Raphael but it's not like he loves her as well) but mostly, she just doesn't want the pressure of being an empress. That's why Veronica got the position of crown princess. Because Cecilia refused and everyone heard of it so nobles put pressure on crown prince so that one of their daughter get the position. Veronica got it because obviously her family is the most powerful.
But Cecilia never died lol. Both of them were just in a political relationship but wasn't approved by Cecilia herself.

That's what I read in the novel but I've seen another spoiler about the past life that said Cecilia was killed so I'm wondering if I might be wrong. And since I didn't get to this part yet, Idk if Cecilia was really killed. I just know that CP and Cecilia weren't in love for sure. Actually we can already see int he webtoon that she kinda like Raphael and doesn't want the CP to stick to her right when she is with Raphael :')
