The guy she bought, whose name is Ecklis, ends up betraying her. And why did he betrayed her? Well, because he wanted Penelope to only depend on him. Ecklis was obsessed with her. He didn't really love her. Remember, Ecklis lost everything in one scope after his country lost the war. he lost his country, family, identity, dignity, freedom...everything.
