Not really, it's because we saw it in Ryeon's pov. What if his father was possessed by evil or something? I mean who would be stupid enough to raise a kid put him as your successor when you killed his parents?

(All jokes aside, the evil spirit thing kind of makes sense. Maybe the spirit killed his mom so cheonma had to kill him, and then he decided to take care of his friend’s kid as his final wish or something. However, the misunderstanding happened, and he didn’t correct him(maybe he saw himself as “dirtied” too because he killed his friend, so he wanted ryeon to grow up and kill him))
