Then she'd feel like she's just an accessory, or that all of her future success isn't because of her hard work. That would hurt her more than the humiliation.

This is just my opinion, but I think it's different now because she my believe that her husband is now trying harder for her sake and it's because she worked hard and accepted her husband even when he was "trash". All the good things that are happening to her currently is the result of her just being a good, kind person
