ML knows that MC is not really Veronica. He eventually noticed it. He purposefully didn't give her his favour in fear that her life will be endangered. When Elena died, ML took Ian away from Real Veronica.
He was talking to Baby Ian, telling him that even if it's just the two of them, they should remember the most gracious woman in the Empire that was Elena.
Um these are good arguments but I meant how everyone else got a second chance at life but Ian can't be born again. Even if she has a son with the same guy and calls him Ian, it won't be the same person.
