thanks for the spoiler! i was starting to lose interest by ch10 since the mystery or the angst feels so forced. when i returned to the topics, i realized i was about to waste my time, but i wanted to affirm my suspicion that it had to with the plot and not the execution (coz it felt really slow) . then, I found yours :)
This is a summery to explain just what the hell is going on in this BL (if you can even call it that -_-) and this will have heavy spoilers about pretty much the whole thing.
In short:
This is a f*cking tragedy and really needs that tag.
Long version:
MC (Haneul) has transferred to a new school where his sickly older brother (Gaeul) had recently committed suicide. His whole motive and reason is to figure out what happened to his brother in the events leading to his death because as far as MC is concerned, his brother is a saint~ To help with this investigation, he teams up with his new roommate Seojun (orange eyed lover/friend--later found to be a spy--later becomes genuine) and joins the "Reading Club".
Enter the psychopathic piece of sh*t that is Hayesoo (short blue eyed prick) as the leader of this club and his entourage of minions/friends who do his bidding. Turns out, the club was created by both Hayesoo AND Gaeul (MC's bro) and they specialize in being delinquents instead of reading. Naturally, MC is aghast that his ideal big brother would ever be with these punks and is more and more sure they are responsible for his brother's death. Haneul is toyed with and manipulated by everyone while his Mother is a loon who knows more than she's letting on and has always treated Haneul as an afterthought to Gaeul.
As we learn that Gaeul was dating Hayesoo, we are left to wonder what happened between them to spark the suicide until the last few chapters. As it turns out *SUPER SPOILERS ON GAEUL'S DEATH AHEAD* there were rumors Hayesoo and Gaeul were gay together and while Hayesoo was fine with this, Gaeul was stressed to live up to his big brother status and while secretly he hated his little brother (MC Haneul) for always making him feel pitiable he also couldn't stop feeling guilty for it since he knows his little bro meant well. As such, he decided to heed Hayesoo and his minion's advice and pay/date this lonely girl (No Name?) as a beard. Things go well enough and people stop gossiping but now Gaeul is actually becoming friends with No Name and Hayesoo is jelly so he tells Gaeul it's time to drop No Name despite Gaeul's objections. Unfortunately No Name hears this conversation and goes bat-shit when alone with Gaeul to the point he tells her to go die...Next day, everyone is freaking out that No Name tried to kill herself and Hayesoo and his minions all place the blame on Gaeul despite this being largely their fault too. Having to face this betrayal, guilt, and stress on top of all of his pre-existing issues--Gaeul snaps and hangs himself in his dorm later that day. Leaving a diary behind.
*HUGE SUPER SPOILERS ON GAEUL'S DEATH OVER*
So the majority of the story is about Haneul (MC) being dragged this way and that by everyone he meets and how ultimately, Hayesoo is the antagonist. The plot is great and it leads up to a very good mystery but then they drop everything at the end like they gave-up.
*SPOILERS FOR END OF STORY*
After the big reveal, Haneul has read his big brother's diary and learns the truth about how Gaeul actually hated him (this is the thing everyone kept saying he would regret if he didn't drop his inquisition--that he'd learn this truth and be unable to do anything about it now that it's too late). Within the next 2 chapters, Haneul is shown packing his stuff and leaving school after crying his heart out. He ignores his "boyfriend" (and probably the most genuinely good guy in this story) Seojun's pleas and breaks his phone. As he's driving away with his Mom we learn she knew about all everything all along. The reason she was always treating him like sh*t was her way of trying to show Gaeul love but ultimately she valued him more (so what that means is, she f*cked up with both kids as neither felt they were truly loved).
The final panel to cap all this trauma off is with Hayesoo (the root of all evil) turning to his female minion/ CHF (who was supposedly trying to wash her hands of Hayesoo) and smiling while talking about all the "Fun" they'll have toying with people like this in the future after they graduate...so basically a kick the dog moment.
*SPOILERS END*
TLDR:
Don't read this if you want to avoid:
-frustratingly complex plots
-similar and confusing looking characters
-ANGST AND TRAUMA TO THE VERY END
-a BL that is chaste and has very little romance
-an ending that will make you want to punch the author in their face (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸
Rated 1/5 because I got really invested and then it dropped me like a sac of Lalafells.
