it was a flashback to her past life, shes not dead, if you reread the beginning it shows her a few moments before her death then cuts to her waking up in the current timeline
Sorry to say, but yes, she did died in the previous timeline. And not a pretty death, either. They had mangled her body pass the point of recognition. :(
