There's a belief that you can lose a lover, but that family will always be there. Plus let's face it, while sweet and romantic to read. Reality is this boy is deeply psychologically damaged. Is it really healthy? Can he come to love himself and be an equal partner. I think Natsume recognized his damage too ( abandoned by his long time lover Hiromi and then orphaned) I think he really wanted to let Asahi grow and be his own person. So while "Yea! They're together" I wonder how they can heal and become whole. Tho if you read her other books ( like Scarlet) Madarame perfectly happy with keeping her character's quirks.

(SPOILERS) im going to assume natsume went out with all those people (including hiromi) to forget about his love for asahi...but, like, why? at the end, i was picking apart his words and i think hes saying he promised asahi to be his family but he doesnt want to have to let him go someday, so couldnt he just accept asahi's feelings? (because he obviously knows about them considering hes been trying to run frim them for a while)
