From my understanding, the curse skips people in the bloodline so they never know who will get it. That's why the emperor doesn't have it, and why the emperor's brother (Richard's father) and Richard doesn't have it.

Lol, but I had a question I'd like to be clarified. Why doesn't the emperor have the curse? Did I miss something in the explanation? Does he pass it on to his child then die soon after? Doesn’t the bloodline die off young due to the curse? So why is he still healthy and alive (and without the curse)? Lol, I'm majorly confused.
