Edit: Okay, I had to re-read the entire thing to actually shed light to my own thoughts. I guess it might seem like they're a bit indifferent but they aren't. They're just really close that they don't really need kisses all the time; just each other's presence is already an impact to both of them. They already had sex (am I right or did I see that wrong?) so I think physical attraction and compatibility is out of the question. And that mysterious caller, that's probably an ex-boyfriend who would probably stir up the story a little bit.
