    No the king was his only ally in his life. All nobles feared him and disliked him but the king was the only one supporting Richelieu and in the end, being his only friend.

    I only remb he's a patronage of the arts and that he support government officials from the middle class, the class where the King is wary of. I might have had taught a different version from school but it was ages ago.

    Well seems like we didn't study the same Richelieu because the one in France's history was a talented politician that just went to the church because of a family duty. But there was no involvement with art, just his cats, politics and war strategies. He was the enemy of the regent queen but the loyal teacher and friend of her son, the king.
    At least in history, this is what his life was reported as. I don't know about the version of the three musketeers as I've heard that he was portrayed as an enemy of the king but in reality, the king was his only ally (but lucky as he is, the king was his most powerful ally).

    Excuse me, I've said no involvement in arts but I didn't take into account all the books he write about his political strategies. :')
