I think we are are so traumatized by characters in other stories that were innocent looking and ended up being crazy that we trust no one now XD
I mean, love at first sight only exists in fiction, what people have is "attraction at first sight" and love only comes later, and this girl has seen the harsh reality that starkly contrasted her fairytale dreams when she went to the palace and saw what happened with her sister, so it makes total sense why she'd be hesitant, cautious, and question his intentions.
Us readers be thinking he's sus as h*ll because (in this story especially) men don't usually come in on a white horse out of the blue proclaiming true love and that they'd wait an eternity for you. It sounds more like he's purposely trying to seduce her and get her to lower her guard, than sincerely pursue a romantic relationship with her (￣∇￣")
If someone came up to me and declared their love out of nowhere I would 100% think they're batshit crazy or out to steal my kidneys.

His expressions seem so pure and honest like I understand y ya'll would think this way considering how the story's been so far but please don't assume he's bad just because the majority of the characters in this story are bad.
