There are two main yakuza groups: the Doushinkai and the Sanwaikai. Then there are smaller groups who belong to either of these. Fx Matsubara and Shinseikai belong to Doushinkai, while Goudagumi belongs to Sanwaikai.

Doushinkai is currently lead by Misumi (the elder man who took Yashiro into the group), because the chairman is sick and may die soon. Thus they are looking for a new one. Most people want Misumi to become the chairman, but he wants Yashiro to become the head of the Doushinkai.

Hirata (the homophobe who ordered Yashiro to be murdered) has bugged Yashiro's room, so he knows that Misumi wants Yashiro to take over the group, but Hirata is very envious and wants to switch groups, meaning he wants to betray Doushinkai by killing Yashiro and joining the Gouda group (who won't accept him, unless if he kills Nanahara to show his devotion). However, he also wants Ryuuzaki dead, because Ryuuzaki won't kill Yashiro, and it seems Ryuuzaki is after Hirata's life too, now that he realizes Hirata's true plans.

--> This is why Misumi says that who ever dies is family, because this is an internal fight in the Doushinkai, but slowly Goudagumi is becoming a part of it too. If Misumi wants to solve things, he has to do it peacefully, otherwise a conflict between Gouda/Sanwaikai and Doushinkai will evolve.

If Hirata does succeed in killing Nanahara and Yashiro, he will help the Gouda group to rise up in Sanwaikai's hierarchy, and he will be promoted in the Gouda group.

Actually Misumi doesn't want Yashiro to become the new chairman, but just his second-in-command, if Misumi becomes the new chairman.
