Yup, I agree with you about the characters. Maybe they're acting like that because of a difficult situation they were put in. Actually they probably don't know how to act. And yes, the story got a little dramatic but I sincerely believe that sensei will resolve it with a little help from Katou and Iwaki (when the time comes they will overcome this hard situation because they truly love each other).
The story is just getting really dramatic and tiring to read. It doesn't have to be lighthearted but right now it is very stressful and a tense read with no resolution. All of the characters are acting very overemotional and immature as well.
