Just a theory. IDK why, but he seems like he hate his daughter NOT because of her being cursed. I think people would usually turn cold, or wouldn't blame their daughter at all. But he just cuts her off and is planning to pull tricks disguised as a "gift".

The father murdered his wife by making it seem like a carriage accident caused by the "cursed" daughter. So basically, he turned her own daughter to a scapegoat. As for the reason, idk, so it's highly unlikely.
