Tragedies don't have to have deaths, though they often do. They do have to have sad endings, or it wouldn't be tragic. Think for example betrayals, revenge and destruction, etc.

I'm just saying the mcs not staying together isn't what I would qualify as a tragedy. Bittersweet, sad, yes. But not tragedy.
