That's a bit confusing, in real life not everyone take the same reaction when they were being hurt.
And probably the author wants her to have more bigger room for character growth that's why the author started with that.
Also, I'm guessing it's to show the contrast between her brothers nature and her.

As the comment above had said, everyone has a different reaction. The FL took the situation much more heavily compared to the ML whose mental fortitude seems to be rather strong, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Being traumatized after going through slavery is a natural thing, and if she wishes to remain gentle hearted like this, that’s fine too. It just means that’s how she is.
I’d say this is just the beginning, so the FL will probably grow stronger as the story progresses, but keep in mind that strength has different appearances. It’s not merely “boldness” or “recklessness”. Remaining gentle after hardships is a sort of strength as well.
