Think about what if the student wanted out of the relationship, and the professor didn't. The professor could use their position to threaten the student's academic future. Even if they don't intend to, the student might feel pressured to go along with things they don't want because they're afraid of what might happen if they reject the relationship. And even if none of that happens, if it ever comes out that they were in a relationship, it casts doubts on the student's grades. Did they really earn that B+, or did the professor let things slide to keep her girlfriend happy?
