The "he actually loved her and was a jerk to her trying to protect her" is a lame as* excuse. Talking about the OGT he knew everything. And left her to deal with it alone. While believing he hated her.
It would be different if he had explained everything to her and tried to work with her on protecting themselves but failed. But he just watched from the sidelines and shunned her under the excuse of protecting her. He was connivent on everything that happened to her. Honestly if she knew he knew and did nothing but kill Veronica after she died... she would hate him as much as she hates the others... if not more...

I feel like Ren is gonna figure out her secret and then they'll probably hold a Truce. Since Ren's and her goal is quite the same which is revenge and the downfall of Veronica's family.
