actually in palace were a lot of spies and bc of that he couldn't show affection to her and their child. the spies were there bc imperial family at this point have no power of their own

but seriously I saw a spoiler that the prince actually loved her and cried a lot when she died. He even bought a house and everything for them to live. He always knew that she wasn’t Veronica, but no one knew. He genuinely loved her and their child.
