However, as a historian and based on evidence, I can confirm that in war-like environments (like her family's home pretty much is) many people become callous. Just look at the Abu Ghraib case in the early 2000s, where US-American soldiers tortured Afghan prisoners.
I specialise in the Yugoslavian Wars of the 1990s. Back then, because populists and nationalists agitated the masses and instilled fear into the different ethnic groups, you suddenly had neighbours, school mates, and even relatives killing each other, culminating in genocide. And those were (mostly) completely normal people.
Fear changes people and brings out the worst in humans.

if i was roxanna, i'll be emotionally and mentally exhausted. keeping everyone in check, plotting her survival, i can't keep living like that which is why i find her sooo commendable. she deserves more than a simple recognition and a pat on the back. she deserves everything ╥﹏╥ imagine waking up in this kind of reality... boy i'd never make it to my 1st bday
