I don't know where your friends are from but nope, most countries call their parents mom/dad etc.

the main time people call their parents by their name is if they’re adopted or have a step-parent, and if they call their birth parent by their name high chance they don’t have a good relationship with them it’s just unlikely for someone to call their parents by their name

Oh I know that most of the countries call their parents mom/dad especially with asian parents (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) But with my american friends they call their parents by their first name... It was weird at first but I got used to it now.

I don't know about america, but in europe calling your parents with their names basically means you have no respect for them or that you don't consider them as your parents, so it would be really weird to address them with their names
