I mean, being unable to get the scholarship because you got distracted helping a friend who actually didn’t need it at all must be upsetting. After all, he was deceived. And come on, on such stressful situation, who wouldn’t want to relax a little bit with a friend? (Ignoring the fact that the ‘friend’ is a complete phsyco, but mc doesn’t know it so)

That makes sense, I totally agree. but I understood it to also be he was really mad at himself for allowing himself to be distracted by whathisbutt and his grades falling. Because if he had actually spent all that time studying with him instead of fighting with him and angsting over having to spend time with him his grades would have stayed up.
So they have a huge fight, he cuts off whatshisbutt and acts like he’s going to start focussing only on studying again only to turn around and start drinking with the blond dude. He even admitted he likes him and still stayed away because he needs to concentrate on his grades. That’s the part that I didn’t like.
But I’m one of those obnoxious people who never could see a situation on the grey scale hahaha
