my 2 cents :

honestly, in my opinion, the way they both grew up is the cause of this argument as well as the way it ended. obviously it was also the context that played a role but both of their pride is a key factor here.

from what i see, jiwook is a guy living in poverty, relying on this scholarship in order to continue going to this school to become a lawyer. as for seungeon, he is a rich guy with family problems causing him to have his own issues (like getting violent) while also being really smart. seungeon falls in love with jiwook, doing whatever it takes to be with him even if jiwook doesn't reciprocate his feelings. he uses studying as an excuse to hang out with jiwook causing jiwook to not get his proper education. he lands 12th place while seungeon lands 1st place (if i remember correctly, or he was just high up there) and jiwook feels betrayed and toyed with causing him to blow up on seungeon.

from his perspective, seungeon wasted his precious study time to just play with him. seungeon being so hung up on jiwook, consistently offers to pay for all of his expenses through everything which crushes jiwook's pride. jiwook came from a poor family, is poor, and so that reflects on how he wants to strictly work for his money and accomplishments instead of being given opportunities. he's dead set on not getting help from anyone for some unknown reason. possibly from past trauma. being so prideful usually comes from somewhere so it could just be his poverty or something yet undiscovered.

from seungeon's perspective, he's so in love with jiwook, he has sub-claimed that he's doing everything for jiwook. he basically just wants to be in his life and make it easier for him. what he doesn't understand is that it's deeply hurting jiwook's pride and with that pride coming from somewhere, it could bring up past events that jiwook doesnt want to visit again. seungeon has never dealt with money problems so he could never fully understand what it is that jiwook is feeling. he understands that he has high pride in his academics and money, but doesn't realize that his way if trying to "make things easier" is actually making it harder on jiwook. he's clearly unaware of the impact of his words and actions.

they both recognize the flaws of each other but they don't fully recognize their own flaws. gathering all the information, i believe that the argument was needed and jiwook didn't overreact. jiwook is just feeling his own feelings and sharing them with who he felt these feelings towards. both of them definitely could've handled the situation better but how they reacted is a reflection of their differences and their cultures they've come from. wrong things were said from both sides, which i do admit, it mostly came from seungeon but you get the point . if the two of them want to start a relationship, they both need to improve themselves and reflect. jiwook has already realized it, i'm hoping seungeon does too.

anyways, this was just me rambling. continue on with your own beliefs and opinions! <3 (take a shot everytime i used 'reflect' or 'reflection')

gosh you resumed to the whole thing so perfectly!

honestly like you said i think jiwook’s pride doesn’t only come from poverty. There’s a lot of persons who’d die to be in jiwook’s position (have easy money) and the fact that jiwook wants to be successful with his own merits it’s really incredible !

personally, i could really relate to jiwook *a lot* so i have a bit of a bias towards him. i think that's how i could explain his situation better than seungeon's

my pride is also very high and it came from not just one situation, but multiple that i would like to bury and put behind me forever. i guess this "connection" i have with jiwook made me realize that it's not just his poverty setting him off, it's most likely something added along with it!!

yeah same i have a lot of pride that’s why i also understand Jiwook.
Even tho my entourage hates that part of me i can’t do anything about it lmao. I think having pride is a good think (even tho you should know when you have to be prideful and when not)
